SOPHIE LOURDES KNIGHT in MILL VALLEY

 

For our inaugural gallery show in the new Mill Valley store we are thrilled to present a selection of paintings by one of our favorite artists, Sophie Lourdes Knight! We hope that you will join us alongside the artist at the opening reception on June 1st, from 4-7pm. Beverages and light bites will be served.

SOPHIE LOURDES KNIGHT is a multidisciplinary artist from California working in painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography. She received a BTEC in Art & Design from Wimbledon College of Art, a BFA in Painting & Drawing from California College of the Arts, and an MFA from Slade School of Fine Art. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Sophie currently lives and works in London. 

Knight’s new works on canvas settle on a horizon between the known and the unknown. Animals and objects hover, held in muted limbos of pale greys, somber blues, and dusty yellows. Illumination and light are recurring motifs, breaking through the darkness of isolation and leading to moments of profound connection and recollection. Using a range of paint and mixed media, Knight builds her horizon lines. She stages animals and objects that mostly float in their surroundings, ungrounded, blurring the line between the concept of an object and the reality of it. Her characters and objects are light on the land and sky, weightless and untethered.
