EARTH DAY ETHOS

April 22, 2019
by Mari Feldman
On this Earth Day we are reminded to check in with the policies and procedures we utilize as a business and ask: “How can we do better?” True sustainability requires our consistent commitment to better ourselves, empower each other, provide value for our clientele, and protect the Earth in the process. ESQUELETO translates to skeleton, which symbolizes a framework providing support for life. Our business functions as both a platform for a growing community of independent artists, and a destination for mindful shoppers looking for pieces reflective of their own originality. Our shop is curated with integrity of design and longevity in mind. We hope that by moving away from a... Read More

This month we open three new gallery shows, in each of our locations. Exploring themes of surreal, fragmented narratives and wild, animalistic emotions, these exhibits showcase exciting new work by three of our favorite California-based artists. First up, for the First Friday art walk ESQUELETO Oakland is pleased to present a solo show from XO Finn! Finn's wild, graphic animal portraits inhabit light, dark, and all the shadows in between, both literal and figurative. Artful cuts and crops paired with splashes of color lend an edge to her work creating emphasis and moments of surprise. Finn's highly detailed pen and ink work is a study in nature's spectrum of a kingdom of... Read More

This coming weekend we welcome our favorite Mainer, Cat Bates, to the Oakland shop! To create his nautical- and nature-inspired designs Cat takes iconic items, like a found seagull bone or the functional oarlock of a boat, and distills them down to their most elemental forms before sand-casting in bronze. I was able to chat with Cat this week, asking him to elaborate on his process and inspirations. We are so excited to host Cat and his full line of unique, unisex adornments this weekend!
