ESQUELETO is pleased to welcome artist Kreh Mellick to the Oakland gallery this June and July. Mellick's new gouache works on paper are both deeply meditative and highly dynamic, often drawing inspiration from folk art and traditional craft to advance a more personal mythology. Of her work, Kreh says, "the technical attributes of folding paper, employing static motifs and repeated imagery were helpful in establishing an iconography based in tradition. However, it is my effort to relate my interest in woman, domesticity and power of work and home, as well as the unseen magic and energies that whirl around all things living."
Kreh Mellick is an artist living and working in the artist community surrounding Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. Her work relates fictions inspired by folklore, nostalgia, and a time passed. Mellick works primarily with gouache on paper, often cut and layered in reassembled environments for her figurative narratives. She deftly combines complex, decorative patterns with airy, minimalist, ethereal landscapes.
Please join us at our Oakland location for the opening reception Friday, June 2nd from 5:30-8pm. Light refreshments will be served.
