PHOTO BY CHLOE AFTEL We are thrilled to once again host Satomi Kawakita in our Oakland store on November 14th and 15th for her annual trunk show. Please join us from 11am – 6pm on Saturday and 11am – 5PM on Sunday to meet Satomi, shop her full (very extensive) collection, and receive stacking tips from the master herself! While we carry the largest selection of Satomi Kawakita’s designs in California, we have but a fraction of her collection. It truly is amazing to view everything all together and discover the breadth of her artistry. Satomi will be unveiling several brand new designs at the trunk show, which are exquisite. Brian & Soraya

October 26, 2015
by Lindsay Olson
I met Brian before I had the pleasure of meeting Soraya. He came to Esqueleto, sketchbook in hand, in the hopes of commissioning a custom engagement ring using an heirloom diamond. They were both such a delight to work with that I thought I’d ask them about their experience. Lindsay: How did you two meet? Brian: We met at Socha Café in the Mission District of San Francisco. I wandered into the café to get some work done and Soraya was my barista. L: What brought you to Esqueleto for the ring? B: Years earlier, during a hike in the canyon near my childhood home in San Diego, Soraya picked some wildflowers and twisted them into two rings. We felt like we had joined together that day in... Modern Matches

We often get asked to help couples select wedding rings that both express their individual personalities and coordinate with each other in a meaningful way. Here are some of our favorite pairings of engagement rings and wedding bands that complement one another without being too “matchy matchy.” THE BEACHY BABES This 2.19ct black diamond engagement ring by Lauren Wolf Jewelry sets the tone here, with it’s stingray skin texture and stormy stone. The matching simple stingray gold wedding band continues the seaside vibe. We’ve paired these with Lauren’s thicker, more masculine band in the same texture, but chosen an oxidized silver material to bring out the pattern and complement... Read More

We are so excited for our trunk show on Thursday evening with L.A.-based jeweler Kaylin Hertel! Join us in the Los Angeles shop from 5 to 8pm to meet Kaylin and shop her full line (with libations of course). Kaylin’s sophisticated and architectural pieces are the perfect investment for anyone looking for timeless fine jewelry they can wear for years to come. I sat down with Kaylin to talk about her life as a jewelry designer and get a preview of the fab new pieces she’ll be premiering at the trunk show. A: How did you get started as a jeweler? Why did you choose this medium over other forms of expression? K: I took my first metalsmithing class when I was 15, and I couldn’t get enough.... Read More

Staff Picks: Throwback Queen

October 5, 2015
by Sha-Ron Walker
I’m heading into fall with my eye on the prize, focused on standout pieces that catch the eye. TENTHOUSANDTHINGS Extra Long Whisker Earrings These are as elegant as they are fierce. Their curvilinear structure creates several stylish profiles which give dimension and movement, accenting any neckline. Dress them up or dress them down, it doesn’t really matter. This stand out pair speaks for itself. Victorian Five Diamond Ring I’ll admit it, I have a sick fascination with vintage odd numbered diamond rings. When I saw this beauty, my right eye twitched…twice! From the rich yellow 18k to the recessed side detailing this ring adds glamour to hand. If mine were the... Read More

TENTHOUSANDTHINGS

September 28, 2015
by Kayla Ogden
We at ESQUELETO are beyond excited to carry the gorgeous designs of David Rees and Ron Anderson of TENTHOUSANDTHINGS. Though clearly modern in style, their work is made with the goal of being passed down from generation to generation, with the integrity and aesthetic staying power of antique heirlooms. Possessing a piece from TENTHOUSANDTHINGS means so much more than wearing something that’s on-trend, it means you own something that can be valued for hundreds of years. Edwardian Tapered Chain Necklace This beautiful, 22″ long necklace has a luxurious weight to it. There’s a great balance here between the industrial oxidized silver links and the distinctly feminine and... Read More

by Alexis Adams
Our Oakland location will be hosting a trunk show with Sarah Greenberg of Sarah Swell Jewelry this coming weekend! Please join us Friday the 25th from 1-6pm and Saturday the 26th from 11am-6pm, meet Sarah, and shop her full collection including some stunning new bridal designs. I had the opportunity to talk with Sarah a bit about her design and fabrication process, and the things that inspire and challenge her as a jeweler, artist and small business owner. A: How did you get your start as a jeweler, and what drew you to jewelry design over other media? S: I actually started off as a painter. While I was in art school, I was working in a jewelry store to make ends meet. They started having... Read More

1 Of A Kind: Lauren Wolf

September 15, 2015
by Kayla Ogden
Lauren Wolf’s line of jewelry always features highly coveted one of a kind diamond rings. As the precious collectables sell out, she sources more unique diamonds and crafts evolved settings. To Lauren, diamonds with inclusions are more beautiful than the manufactured-looking, completely transparent ones. The one of a kind rings drive the entire collection forward and, along with her iconic stock pieces, complete her line. We recently invited the super talented and creative photographer, Ramon Felix, to our Oakland courtyard to photograph Lauren’s newest work. He had his model lift her hands up to the summer sky, which captured the jewelry perfectly. Check out Ramon’s... Read More

SEPTEMBER PICKS: Femme Fatale

September 9, 2015
by Alexis Adams
As we transition into Fall, I’ve chosen deeper, darker pieces that will mix up my look sartorially for the season, but also be lasting heirlooms I’ll wear forever. Pade Vavra Shark’s Tooth Necklace I am obsessed with this rose gold and diamond-encrusted prehistoric shark’s tooth necklace from Pade Vavra. OBSESSED! This is the ultimate Cali-cool girl necklace. I’d wear it with a simple white tee and my fav vintage Levi’s. Georgian 5-Diamond Band A totally gorgeous vintage ring. I love looking at the super rare, old pieces and seeing how jewelry design has changed through the ages. This is so raw and powerful, it looks as though it could be a modern piece from Lauren Wolf...
