SPOTLIGHT: T.Kahres

March 20, 2017
by Kayla Andrews
This week we’re featuring one of ESQUELETO’s favorite friends in this blog: Teresa of T.Kahres Jewelry! Teresa has been tight with ESQUELETO founder Lauren Wolf since before ESQUELETO was even an idea. The two jewelers started out together in New York City sharing tools, skills, and ideas that would help build the foundation of both T.Kahres Jewelry and Lauren Wolf Jewelry. Here’s a little more about Teresa’s journey as a designer and business woman: Kayla: Hi Teresa! When I met you in person, I immediately noticed your lovely personal style. I believe you were wearing an amazing pair of clogs and a velvet blazer. Can you tell us about your taste in fashion? What do... Read More

Common Treasures

March 14, 2017
by Danica Stamenic
Lauren first approached me with the idea for our Spring Show, “Common Treasures,” in the fall, but the idea has been occupying her mind for some time. “I’ve wanted to put on this show ever since I started volunteering with Creative Growth, when I first moved to Oakland,” she explained. Occupying a large, light-filled former warehouse in downtown Oakland, Creative Growth has been offering studio space, instruction, and gallery representation to artists with physical and mental disabilities since the 1970’s. Now with a satellite gallery in Paris, the center has become an institution within the outsider art world. Its artists are represented at galleries, art... Read More

Material Girl + The Bohème

March 6, 2017
by Madeline & Julia
Hi! We’re Madeline and Julia, the newest additions to the Los Angeles ESQUELETO team. We have a lot in common: we both have adorable Chihuahuas that we are obsessed with, we love the cinema, and love exploring the myriad culinary offerings of East L.A. But we are also different in a lot of ways, which is why we enjoy working with each other. After all, opposites attract! Maddie is really into 90s fashion, with a minimal and clean-lined aesthetic, while Jules has a very bohemian “more is more” attitude. Here are some of our first staff picks for the month of March, and why we selected them over all the many beautiful things in the shop. Madeline: Invisible Moon Face Studs by... Read More

So many amazing new items have been hitting the shops for the spring season! It’s hard to highlight only a few, but here are five of my favs. Postcard Charm Necklace by AILI I am obsessed with the new pieces being crafted by Monica of AILI right now – dainty and minimal enough for daily wear, but with a whimsical, playful attitude – like this darling beach scene postcard necklace. Dutch Georgian Diamond Ring Vintage This antique Dutch ring, dating back to 1820, is one of the most stunning and unique vintage finds to ever come through our shop. It features a pairing of rose cut round and pear-shaped diamonds, ringed by a melee diamond border, all set in a beautifully... Read More

New Mommy Approved

February 20, 2017
by Danica Stamenic
When I was pregnant, I was constantly smiling and nodding while veteran parents told me that nothing could prepare me for the journey ahead. I would smile and nod and moms and dads told me to enjoy my sleep while I could, and enjoy my free time- I was about to have very little of either. Of course, as most parents-to-be, I assumed that somehow things would be different for me. When I thought about my upcoming mom identity, I pictured something akin to Jane Birkin- effortlessly chic (making disheveled look so good), with a baby in one arm and a market basket on the other. Of course, the reality has been far more messy, challenging, and beautiful- just as I was warned. Still, there’s... Read More

Another year has come and gone for our beloved Tucson Gem + Mineral Show! Each February the ESQUELETO ladies look forward to exploring the world’s largest collection of fossil, mineral and precious gems dealers. We totally scored again this year with an amazing selection of Peruvian pyrite, glowing smoky quartz crystals, antique kilim rugs, and many more treasures to sell in the shops. This year was my first time attending the uber-fancy diamond shows. Walking around with Lauren, buying the world’s most unusual and stunning diamonds for the Lauren Wolf Jewelry line, was an incredible experience. After a long day of treasure hunting, there’s nothing better than enjoying a cocktail at... Read More

Linda Fahey

by Alexis Adams
Linda is the artist behind the beautifully badass ceramic snakes that are so beloved in our Oakland shop, and she’s opening a solo show of her work in our Los Angeles location on February 4th. In preparation for her installation, I was able to chat with her about her influences and inspiration. Alexis: Tell me a bit about how you got your start in ceramics. What drew you to the medium? How does it satisfy your creative impulses? Linda: I have a graphic design/illustration background, but I used to install tile, kitchens, bathrooms, pools and began making my own tiles over 17 years ago which first ignited my interest in clay as a medium. I did spend some years throwing but found I... Read More

Megan & Zach

January 17, 2017
by Kayla Andrews
Zach worked with Lauren Wolf to create this beautiful and sentimental ring for his partner, Megan. Lauren added vibrant garnets to her iconic three stone setting to make a truly special custom engagement ring for the happy couple. Kayla: You did a custom project with Lauren Wolf for Megan’s engagement ring. What inspired you to do that? Zach: Not long after we started dating (May 2013) Megan showed me the Instagram account for Lauren Wolf Jewelry and she mentioned that she really liked the style of her work. I made a note of it along with any other ring/jewelry information that I could casually extract out of her over the next 3 years. I knew that she would want something... Read More
