London-based jeweler Ruth Tomlinson is making her first West Coast appearance in our L.A. shop this coming weekend! We are thrilled to have Ruth here in person with her full collection of nature-inspired fine jewelry, including many unique bridal and engagement styles and one of a kind items. Ruth’s creativity is driven by her passion for the earth’s treasures and the magic of minutiae and tiny treasures, and this is reflected in her utterly unique, sculptural designs. I was so excited to get to chat with Ruth a bit about her process and inspirations. Alexis: How did you get started in the world of fine jewelry? What are some of the challenges and joys for you of working in... Read More

Opal Obsessions

October 10, 2017
by Alexis Adams
I’m always jealous of October babies, because I think they’ve got the best birthstone. I’ve long loved opals for their confetti-like party of colors, their way of shifting and changing with the light, and their overall ethereal beauty. Dainty, delicate little opal studs by Scosha and WWake are some of my personal favorites for upper lobe piercings. Please join us in the Oakland shop on Saturday, October 14th for a piercing party with master piercer J. Colby Smith – link to book below! An Aussie native living in Brooklyn, Scosha Woolridge’s jewelry designs embody an intercontinental feel that reflect her life experiences. Both playful and personal, Scosha’s work is perfect for marking milestones and creating beauty in your everyday look. I chatted with Scosha here about the collection she’ll be bringing, and her design philosophy. Jessie Z: We are so pumped to have you back at ESQUELETO for a trunk show in October, can you tell us a bit about the collection you’ll be showcasing? Scosha: I’m thrilled to be back again this year! Sustainable Shopping Guide

September 25, 2017
by Marisela Feldman
These days, influencers and tastemakers are taking into consideration the impact of style on the environment. The consequences of fashion can remain hidden without extra effort on behalf of shoppers, who must take time to understand the backend of production and sourcing in order to evaluate how sustainable an item is, or isn’t. There are layers and complexities to jewelry production- much like the work itself. To avoid doing the research while keeping a small footprint, buy vintage, and support local businesses. Often the mystery of an antique–not knowing who wore it, or where or how it was made–deters shoppers from choosing the old over new. Those prescribing to a more... Read More

Libra Inspiration

September 18, 2017
by Grace Wilcox
The autumnal equinox is approaching and with it Fall, which means Libra season is upon us. As a natural peacekeeper, the kind and gentle Libra is always seeking balance. To achieve balance and harmony, many Libras look inward and rely on meditation and self-care, the reverberations of which can be felt externally as well. Below you’ll find some pieces that exemplify the peaceful balance that speaks to both Libras and non-Libras alike! Sun Moon Diamond Earrings by Celine D’Aoust These celestial sun and moon statement earrings are the perfect nod to the autumnal equinox; the ultimate natural balance of daylight to night. Introducing Céline d’Aoust

September 11, 2017
by Alexis Adams
We are thrilled to present our newest addition to the ESQUELETO artist roster, Celine d’Aoust. Hailing from Brussels, Belgium, Céline creates gorgeous fine jewelry inspired by the natural contrast of rough and refined elements. Céline splits her time between her Brussels studio and Jaipur, India, where she hand selects all of the diamonds and precious stones that go into each of her unique pieces. This allows her a remarkable control over the materials that go into her pieces. Each piece starts with the stones, which directly inspire the final design. Céline prefers naturally included, cloudy, or imperfect diamonds – she considers these imperfections an essential element to... Read More

Summertime in the City

September 5, 2017
by Alexis Adams
Last week Lauren, Isabel and I traveled to New York City, with designer Rebecca Overmann in tow, for a jewelry industry trade show. On our first day, Isabel and I were able to totally nerd out in the New York Jewelry District while Rebecca and Lauren set up for the trade show (and Lauren discovered a hidden talent for floral arranging). The trade show, dubbed Melee and started by Lauren and Rebecca, was a great success! We picked up some stunning new things for the ESQUELETO shops from some of our favorite artists, including WWake, Satomi Kawakita and AILI. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for these gorgeous new items! It wasn’t all work and no play though: We of course ate all... Read More
