Design Inspiration: Samira

May 15, 2017
by Danica Stamenic
With years spent in Equatorial Guinea, Montreal, and New York, Samira Gagné Ludwin is something of a polymath – her work takes her from designing the interiors of well-appointed homes and startups to metalwork, creating adornments for both the home and the body. Samira’s gorgeous taste and creative background meet in her inviting Oakland walkup, which she shares with her husband and their 10-month-old son, Leo. I got the chance to swing by Samira’s place to talk about decorating, style, and- of course- our shared love of jewelry. Danica: Designing for someone’s space is such a personal partnership. How do you help people realize their individual style? And how would you describe... Read More

New Work: Luke Forsyth

April 24, 2017
by Alexis Adams
I am very excited about the current gallery installation we have up in the Los Angeles shop. California native and L.A.-based painter Luke Forsyth has created a series of acrylic-on-panel works inspired by our state’s iconic Interstate-5, affectionately known to Californians as simply “The 5.” Somewhere along the 5 features works based on moments strewn along the 5 freeway in California. The imagery in each painting signify the quotidian: a tag from a coat purchased at a thrift store; an embroidery from the artist’s mother’s kitchen; a rendering of a place both hated and comfortable, and ultimately from where the artist collects his visions. I chatted with Luke a bit... Read More

by Alexis Adams
This coming weekend we welcome Satomi Kawakita to our Los Angeles shop for her annual trunk show. We are so thrilled to have Satomi here along with her full line of beautiful engagement rings, stackable bands, men’s and women’s wedding bands, and delicate earrings. This is a perfect opportunity to meet the artist in person and get her assistance in creating your dream ring stack. Since she’ll be bringing every variation of her rings in each metal, it’s also a great time to shop for wedding bands, getting to see all the options at once and compare styles. Don’t miss this rare West Coast appearance by Satomi!   Saturday and Sunday April 22 + 23 11am to 6pm each day ... Read More

On View: Common Treasures

April 10, 2017
by Danica Stamenic
With all the work now hung, here’s a quick look at the stunning pieces that the team of artists at Creative Growth created for our show, “Common Treasures.” With an eye for composition and sturdy construction, Lauren Wolf (jewelry designer and owner of ESQUELETO) brought these necklace-like assemblages together using the incredible elements that each artist created during our two-month workshop series. The result? Wall hangings that seem to sing and dance, intermingling hard and soft materials in wabi-sabi perfection.   Left: The largest piece in the show hangs at approximately 4.5′ long by 2.5′ wide, and features hand-sculpted and painted ceramic beads and... Aries Inspiration

April 3, 2017
by Alexis Adams
Spring is officially here, and we’re feeling all things Aries right now! The first sign of the Zodiac, Aries is often equated symbolically with the season, representing all the vitality, new growth, and sexy stamina of a welcome springtime after a long winter. Aries is a Fire sign, ruled by Mars, and as such is full of energy, passion, courage and a zest for life. Here are some of our fav pieces for those fierce, self-assured, adventurous Aries. Aries Signet by Talon Emily Hirsh, the talented designer behind the Talon Zodiac line, has created a beautifully detailed rendering of a ram, the strong and stubborn astrological symbol of the Aries house. STREET STYLE: Keely

March 27, 2017
by Danica Stamenic
WEARING: Vintage dress from the general store and Sven clogs. TEMESCAL ALLEY, OAKLAND STREET STYLE AILAND KEELY BRUNS aka “KEELY” As an Esqueleto alum and longtime neighbor in Temescal Alley, we’ve long admired Keely’s dry humor, warm heart, and spot-on style. She keeps her color palette monochrome in black and white, with a generous smattering of yellow gold, diamonds and super cool tattoos from head to toe. We met up over iced tea (Keely skips the caffeine) so I could scope her enviable look. Danica: You’ve made jewelry, worked for jewelers (Love Adorned, ESQUELETO, and Marisa Mason), and are an avid collector. What sparked your interest in jewelry? Keely: (Laughs) Well, at... Read More

SPOTLIGHT: T.Kahres

March 20, 2017
by Kayla Andrews
This week we’re featuring one of ESQUELETO’s favorite friends in this blog: Teresa of T.Kahres Jewelry! Teresa has been tight with ESQUELETO founder Lauren Wolf since before ESQUELETO was even an idea. The two jewelers started out together in New York City sharing tools, skills, and ideas that would help build the foundation of both T.Kahres Jewelry and Lauren Wolf Jewelry. Here’s a little more about Teresa’s journey as a designer and business woman: Kayla: Hi Teresa! When I met you in person, I immediately noticed your lovely personal style. I believe you were wearing an amazing pair of clogs and a velvet blazer. Can you tell us about your taste in fashion? What do... Read More

Common Treasures

March 14, 2017
by Danica Stamenic
Lauren first approached me with the idea for our Spring Show, “Common Treasures,” in the fall, but the idea has been occupying her mind for some time. “I’ve wanted to put on this show ever since I started volunteering with Creative Growth, when I first moved to Oakland,” she explained. Occupying a large, light-filled former warehouse in downtown Oakland, Creative Growth has been offering studio space, instruction, and gallery representation to artists with physical and mental disabilities since the 1970’s. Now with a satellite gallery in Paris, the center has become an institution within the outsider art world. Its artists are represented at galleries, art... Read More
