Summertime in the City

September 5, 2017
by Alexis Adams
Last week Lauren, Isabel and I traveled to New York City, with designer Rebecca Overmann in tow, for a jewelry industry trade show. On our first day, Isabel and I were able to totally nerd out in the New York Jewelry District while Rebecca and Lauren set up for the trade show (and Lauren discovered a hidden talent for floral arranging). The trade show, dubbed Melee and started by Lauren and Rebecca, was a great success! We picked up some stunning new things for the ESQUELETO shops from some of our favorite artists, including WWake, Satomi Kawakita and AILI. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for these gorgeous new items! It wasn’t all work and no play though: We of course ate all... Read More

Jason Montano

by Jessie Zechnowitz
Jason Montano is a fine art photographer living and working in Oakland, CA. His work is playful, yet serene, and often employs ambiguous subject matter to evoke multiple references simultaneously. We are incredibly excited to welcome him to our Oakland location for a solo exhibit opening Friday, September 1st! As a precursor to his show, I sat down with Jason to talk about his inspiration and technique. Jessie Z: CAN YOU GIVE US SOME INSIGHT INTO THE SERIES AND HOW THESE SPECIFIC PANORAMAS ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION? Jason Montano: The ten photographs selected here are from my “Nothing To See Here” project, taken during and around summer road trips through California, Utah, Arizona... Read More

An Evening at the Campo

August 7, 2017
by Jessie Zechnowitz
On July 29th ESQUELETO hosted a dreamy summer supper in the Temescal Alleys’ newly constructed campo. The evening was a ladies-only event and a chance for Bay Area tastemakers and cultural voices to come together in celebration of local businesses! Tucked away at the back of the alleys, the campo is a sunny square paved with gravel and stone that we transformed into a total urban oasis. Crimson Horticultural Rarities lent their beguiling sense of style, constructing breathtaking tablescapes bedecked with locally grown summer flowers, as well as a romantic floral swag to adorn the campo fence line. Linda Fahey’s bewitching ceramic snakes slithered among bud vases of marigolds,... Read More

Introducing Jennie Kwon

July 11, 2017
by Alexis Adams
We are thrilled to welcome our newest artist to ESQUELETO, Jennie Kwon! Jennie is a native Angeleno, and her effortlessly graceful designs are influenced by all the natural beauty and artistic culture that Southern California has to offer. We love how Jennie came by her career as a jewelry designer. After being raised from early childhood as an artist (she was an accomplished classical violinist) Jennie left her artistic roots behind to become an attorney. However, the birth of her twin daughter and son brought about that creative spark once again. Jennie was so inspired by their perfectly innocent beauty, and soon after launched her namesake jewelry line. Emerald Cut Diamond... Read More

Future Heirlooms

July 3, 2017
by Alexis Adams
One of my favorite parts of the shop is the vintage jewelry section. I love fantasizing about who might have worn each piece – the ceremonies it commemorated, the parties it attended, how many times it was passed down to heirs before ending up in ESQUELETO’s collection. One of the beautiful things about fine jewelry is its enduring nature. This week I speculated about which contemporary pieces might end up as timeless treasures many years down the road. Here I’ve gathered ten items that stand out, because of their unique designs and beautiful materials, as those super special future heirlooms. Three Diamond Ring Lauren Wolf Jewelry The most fought-over heirloom is always... Read More
